This site is dedicated to the memory of Brenda Marshall, née Bullen.

Brenda was the dearly beloved wife of Gordon and treasured mother of Louise and Laura. Artistically talented, stylish and witty, Brenda was, above all, kind and generous with an exceptional interest in people. Her sympathetic nature and desire to help others drew people to her, and her wit and wisdom were the sustaining force behind her many friendships.

Brenda was diagnosed in April 2011 with IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), a little understood lung condition, with no apparent cause or known cure. The disease causes fibrosing or hardening of the lung tissue, reducing lung function. Average life expectancy after diagnosis is three years.

The British Lung Foundation is undertaking critical work in respect of IPF. As well as its important research work, the BLF offers support for patients, who, because of the debilitating nature of the disease, the lack of a known cure, and the limited general awareness of its effects, can feel very isolated in their suffering.

We are privileged and proud to support the work of the BLF through this Breath of Life Fund in Brenda's memory. We hope you will join us in supporting their work and helping to discover viable treatment for IPF. Thank you for any consideration you are able to make.

Thoughts

Remember by Christina Rossetti Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray, Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.

Thank you for the days, Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me I’m thinking of the days I won’t forget a single day, believe me I bless the light I bless the light that lights on you, believe me And though you’re gone You’re with me every single day, believe me

Extract from a poem by Henry Scott Holland I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant; it is the same as it ever was. Thank you ever so much for choosing to support the work of the British Lung Foundation by creating this Breath of Life Fund online tribute in loving memory of Brenda. We hope that you find it a positive experience developing your page and that it becomes a place of comfort and inspiration for you to visit whenever you want or need to. It has been designed to be a truly lasting tribute for perpetuity for future generations to see.
